Tidying Up with Marie Kondo - Top 2 Lessons
I have always been what I call "clean but messy". To paint you a picture, my socks would drop anywhere and everywhere around the house, my closet was overflowing with clothes hung on mismatched hangers and there would always be a basket of clean laundry, that I would rifle through instead of putting back into its places. Then a few months ago, I read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up and then I forced my husband to pull out all our clothes and sort through them with me.
Together, we put together 4 garbage bag full of clothing to donate and reorganized the closet so that our clothes all fit into one room, instead of spread out across 3 closets. I also tried to teach him how to fold the clothes so that they're "happy" but he had enough of me by that point. Two months later, we are still using the method loosely.
But here are the top 2 lessons I learned from taking on the "Konmari" method.
1. Get rid of the things that don't make you happy.
This was the easiest with clothes. I realized that I was holding on to clothes that didn't fit me anymore, never fit me at all, or just made me feel plain uncomfortable. You know the feeling when you wear your favourite shirt, that killer outfit that makes you feel extra cute or confident, or those jeans that fit you perfectly AND hits all your curves just right? Those are the feelings I want to surround myself with.

2. Say thank you to the things you're getting rid of.
Like many other people, I get very attached to things and it's not easy to do Step 1 because I find myself rationalizing why I need certain items that I don't need.
